What's the difference between a service and MOT Test?

An annual service involves a comprehensive check of your vehicle's condition, and a refresh or top up of essentials such as engine oil, fluid and coolants, and replacement filters for air conditioning if required. You should get a service at least once a year, but if you cover around 10,000 miles a year, your car might need to be serviced more regularly. Servicing should be completed according to your vehicle manufacturer’s schedule. An MOT test checks that your vehicle meets all road safety and environmental standards. It proves that your car is roadworthy and safe to drive.  Every car over three years old must get an MOT every year to comply with the law in the UK. Booking a service at the same time as your MOT provides total peace of mind and confidence that your car is running in top condition.

How long will the MOT Test take?

An MOT test roughly takes between 45 minutes to 1 hour. If you find it easier, you can leave your car with us and pick it up once the MOT test has been completed.

What type of vehicles do you MOT Test?

We MOT test: cars, motorcycles, vans, pick-ups, mini buses, large motor homes, light commercial vehicles (LGVs) and motorbikes. We even MOT test limos and fleet vehicles too.

What do I do if my car requires extra work or repair?

If your vehicle requires extra work or advisory repairs, we would recommend that you get these fixed as soon as possible. Your vehicle may still pass its MOT test with advisory repairs.

What happens if my car fails its MOT Test?

If we find any major issues with your vehicle, they’ll need to be fixed before you can legally drive your car away. You may only need a partial retest if you leave your vehicle at our garage for repair and it’s retested within 10 working days. Our advice is to get all the repairs your vehicle needs as soon as possible so that you are confident in its safety and your legal right to drive it on the road.

How long is an MOT certificate usually valid for?

An MOT certificate is usually valid for 1 year from the date of the test. Your MOT can also be done up to 1 month before it runs out while keeping the original expiry date.
