Summer Car Maintenance: What You Can Do

Summer Car Maintenance: What You Can Do

With the weather heating up, this can present a few issues with regard to your personal transportation that you may not have considered. With that in mind, some general light maintenance really does go a long way in terms of caring for your car.

So, make sure you can make the most of your summer, enjoying day trips to the seaside and sunny evening drives with these handy summer car maintenance tips!

Air Conditioning

This is a must when the weather heats up. The last thing you want is to be stuck in traffic in boiling hot temperatures roasting in your car. Before it heats up too much and you’re in this position, take some time to test your vehicle’s AC.

If you turn on the AC and find that it’s just hot air coming out of it, the chances are you may need to get this repaired. All you need to do is pay a trip to your trusted mechanic in order to get to the bottom of it.

Tyres are important not only in summer but at all times of the year. Pressures must be right and to check this you can consult the manual because sometimes that information is on the inside of the fuel door. Treads need to be free of stones, stray nails and any other debris, and all four should be in good overall condition.

By this we mean, no cracks, no uneven wear this could be caused by a suspension problem and good tread depth. Summer is commonly a time for day trips and outings, so, it would be a wise idea to keep a spare tyre handy too! The spare obviously needs to be usable as well.

When you’re not behind the wheel, but the car is still in direct sunlight, a light cover can go over the windshield and will protect the dashboard against ultraviolet rays and help the cabin stay cool. This is a nice, simple solution but makes a huge difference on a hot and sunny day.

You might not realise this but if your car’s windshield is dirty, it can actually be a hazard. Even from the inside, that haze will diffuse the light and make things more difficult to see. Dirt in your car can mount up so easily over time and we don’t always notice it but it’s really important to keep on top off. Not just for hygiene but also for safety purposes.
